On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Prof. Dr. Haider A Marhoon, Chancellor of Al-Ayen Iraqi University, participated in the scientific conference organized by the Dhi Qar Center for Historical and Archaeological Studies, in cooperation with the College of Law at Al-Ayen University and the Imam Al-Kadhim (PBUH) College of Islamic Sciences – Dhi Qar Departments. The conference, hosted by the University of Dhi Qar, was titled “Extremism and Artificial Intelligence: Diverse Applications and Utilizing ”
In his speech at the conference, he emphasized the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technologies, particularly in the field of social media. He pointed to the radical transformations in the algorithms of these platforms and their role in reshaping content and influencing public opinion. He also stressed the importance of employing these technologies ethically and technically in a way that ensures the governance of artificial intelligence and contributes to countering extremist discourse by deconstructing it and building a moderate digital discourse, while also expanding digital awareness within society and promoting the safe use of technology.
He added that the current phase requires strengthening cooperation between academic institutions, decision-makers, and technology experts, as well as supporting joint research across scientific and humanities disciplines. This will contribute to developing artificial intelligence tools capable of effectively monitoring and addressing inflammatory rhetoric.
The conference featured several research papers and studies addressing artificial intelligence applications in various fields, along with discussions on ways to develop it in line with current needs. This reflects Al-Ayen University's commitment to enhancing its academic presence and expanding academic collaboration with diverse educational institutions.
