The College of Medicine at Al-Ayen Iraqi University commemorated the 19th anniversary of a pioneering medical achievement: the first permanent pacemaker implantation in Nasiriyah City on April 9, 2007. The procedure was performed by an outstanding medical team led by Prof. Dr. Ammar Talib Al-Hamdi, with the participation of elite physicians, including Prof. Dr. Adnan Taan Al-Khafaji and Prof. Dr. Abbas Fadhil, along with supporting medical staff.
The operation involved implanting two permanent pacemakers in two patients in the fracture ward of Nasiriyah Hospital (Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital) using fluoroscopy. Both procedures were completely successful, marking a significant medical milestone that contributed to the advancement of medicine in Dhi Qar Province and Iraq as a whole.
On this occasion, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Adnan Taan Al-Khafaji commended the pioneering role of Prof. Dr. Al-Hamdi in establishing and developing the field of cardiac electrophysiology in Iraq, commending his scientific and medical efforts in serving the community and improving healthcare.
