On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Student Activities Department at Al-Ayen Iraqi University organized its first annual Short Film Festival. The event was attended by the University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Haider A. Marhoon, and supervised by the Director of the Department Dr. Maitham Uday Muhammad Saleh.
The festival featured five short films produced by students, addressing social, humanitarian, and cultural themes. The films demonstrated a high level of skill in directing, acting, and screenwriting, along with a diversity of artistic styles and creative approaches. Several faculty members and a number of writers and poets from Dhi Qar Province also attended the event. A specialized jury evaluated the participating works, with the film "Azal" from the College of Engineering Technology winning first place for its profound concept and impactful dramatic treatment.
The university chancellor emphasized that this event represents an important step towards strengthening cultural and artistic activity within the university, stressing the continued support for initiatives that develop students' skills and showcase their creativity.
