The College of Engineering at Al-Ayen Iraqi University, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, organized an awareness workshop entitled "Rumors and Fake News: Fueling Hate Speech and Violent Extremism." This workshop was part of the college's efforts to raise community awareness, promote a culture of moderation, and combating extremist ideologies.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Ali Abdulhassan Al-Nashi, a member of the Subcommittee for Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism and head of the Communication and Human Fraternity Organization, and Sheikh Mahdi Al-Ghazi, also a member of the above Subcommittee.
The workshop addressed several important topics, focusing on the dangers of rumors and misleading news in the media and on social media platforms, and their role in fueling hate speech and promoting violent extremism. It also outlined ways to combat these phenomena by enhancing community awareness and establishing a culture of fact-checking.
The workshop witnessed active participation from attendees through questions and comments that enriched the discussion and highlighted the importance of community cooperation in confronting extremist ideology and spreading the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific and awareness-raising activities that the College of Engineering, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, is keen to organize, with the aim of enhancing intellectual and cultural awareness among students and the community, and contributing to building a university environment based on dialogue and moderation.
