The Continuing Education Division of the College of Health and Medical Technologies at Al-Ayen Iraqi University, in cooperation with the University's Continuing Education Center, organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled "Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technologies." The workshop addressed infertility as one of the most prominent health and social issues affecting family stability and the psychological well-being of couples.
The workshop included a comprehensive review of the concept of infertility and its types, both primary and secondary, along with a detailed explanation of modern diagnostic methods and laboratory tests. The scientific sessions focused on explaining the mechanisms of assisted reproductive technologies such as artificial insemination, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), their success rates, and the factors affecting fertility, such as age, lifestyle, and chronic diseases.
The workshop was not limited to the medical aspects but also extended to include the psychological aspects and the necessary family support during the treatment journey, in addition to clarifying the ethical and legal framework related to the use of these modern technologies.
Regarding its objectives, the workshop organizers sought to raise health awareness and correct misconceptions related to infertility, with a focus on promoting a culture of early detection and providing the necessary psychological and social support to couples. The workshop concluded with participants issuing a set of key recommendations, foremost among them the need to intensify ongoing health education on reproductive health, activate specialized psychological counseling programs, and emphasize the commitment of health institutions to professional and ethical standards and providing the most accurate information to patients.
