In an attempt to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to enhance the role of academic institutions in serving the community and disseminate awareness of human rights, the College of Engineering at Al-Ayen Iraqi University, in cooperation with women's rights organizations, held an awareness workshop entitled "The Impact of Violence on the Family and its Psychological and Social Repercussions." The workshop was presented by Asst. Lecturer Sara Mohammed Abdul Khader and attended by a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop aimed to highlight the phenomenon of domestic violence and its various forms and to demonstrate its negative impact on the mental health of individuals and the social stability of the family. It also discussed the reasons leading to the exacerbation of this phenomenon and ways to reduce it by promoting a culture of dialogue and understanding and strengthening human values within society.
The workshop's topics included defining the concept of violence and its types, its psychological and behavioral effects on children and youth, the role of educational and media institutions in raising community awareness, and the importance of providing a safe family environment that contributes to building a balanced personality capable of giving and creating.
The workshop witnessed significant interaction from attendees through their contributions and discussions, which enriched its themes. Experiences and opinions were exchanged regarding best practices in awareness campaigns and mechanisms for providing psychological and social support to individuals affected by domestic violence.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific and awareness-raising activities organized by the College of Engineering, in line with its academic and humanitarian mission to support community issues and promote social awareness, thus contributing to building a cohesive society based on respect, cooperation, and positive values.
