The College of Engineering at Al-Ayen Iraqi University held an awareness workshop titled “Iraqi Laws and the Rejection of Violence Against Women,” presented by Lecturer Iltifat Kadhim Jassim, and attended by a number of faculty members.
The workshop aimed to enhance legal awareness of women’s issues, introduce Iraqi legislation and laws that protect and safeguard women’s rights, and heighlight the phenomenon of violence against women, its various forms, and its negative effects on individuals, families, and society. It also emphasized the importance of rejecting all forms of violence and establishing a culture of respect and equality.
The workshop covered several detailed topics, including the legal framework for women’s rights in the Iraqi Constitution and applicable laws, the concept of domestic violence and its causes, its psychological and social repercussions, and the role of academic institutions in disseminating legal culture and promoting community awareness, particularly within educational circles.
The workshop also featured constructive interventions and discussions by the attending faculty members, addressing ways to reduce negative phenomena, mechanisms for supporting women legally and socially, and the importance of activating the university's awareness-raising role in addressing societal issues.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer emphasized the necessity of concerted institutional and academic efforts to disseminate legal awareness and support initiatives that contribute to protecting and empowering women, given their active role in achieving family stability and peaceful coexistence.
