As part of its efforts to enhance the role of women in society, and in conjunction with the continuation of legal awareness and education programs, the Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Law at Al-Ayen Iraqi University organized an online workshop entitled "Political Participation and Development of Iraqi Women." The workshop was held on Sunday evening, July 20, 2025, at 9:00 PM, via an electronic application.
Dr. Idris Al-Hamdani presented the workshop, giving a scientific and analytical presentation that addressed a number of important topics related to women's political participation, most notably:
- The forms of political participation of Iraqi women, whether in decision-making positions, political parties, or legislative and executive bodies.
- The importance of political participation as a tool for achieving justice and equality and its role in building a comprehensive democratic society.
- The benefits of political participation at the individual and societal levels, particularly with regard to achieving sustainable development and representing various segments of society.
- Methods for enhancing women's participation through awareness-raising, institutional support, and amending legislation and public policies.
The workshop addressed the challenges women face in exercising their political role, such as stereotypes, cultural barriers, and weak representation.
The status of women in the 2005 Iraqi Constitution and an analytical review of the legal and constitutional guarantees related to their political rights.
The workshop witnessed significant interaction from the participants, including fruitful discussions and rich contributions, which contributed to expanding awareness of the issues raised.
This workshop is part of a series of activities implemented by the Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Law, as part of its commitment to supporting women's issues and building their legal and social capacities to contribute effectively to building the state and society.
