On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Al-Ayen Iraqi University held a ceremony to raise the banner of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) on its campus to mark the beginning of the holy month of Muharram and commemorate the painful Karbala incident, which embodied the highest meanings of sacrifice and redemption.
The ceremony was attended by the University Chancellor Asst. Prof. Dr. Haider A. Marhoon and his Deputy for Administrative Affairs Asst. Prof. Dr. Atheer Y. Odeh, along with a number of college deans, including the Dean of the College of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Ihsan A. Al-Khuzai, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Hassan K. Al-Aliwi, the Dean of the College of Health and Medical Technology Prof. Dr. Muhammad A. Al-Tahan, the Dean of the College of Engineering Prof. Dr. Firas F. Kazim, and the Dean of the College of Law Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaled K. Odeh, in addition to assistants, professors, and affiliates.
The university is keen to hold these ceremonies annually to affirm its adherence to the humanitarian principles for which Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) rose, and to renew the pledge to follow his approach in upholding the word of truth and confronting injustice.
