Taqwa Muhammad Naji, a faculty member at the College of Engineering at Al-Ayen University, published a scientific paper titled "A Study of the Effect of Laser Surface Remelting on the Properties of Pre-Coated Pure Titanium" in the journal Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy, included in Scopus Q1.
The research examined the effect of surface remelting using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser on pure titanium coated with a thin layer of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) using radiofrequency sputtering (RF sputtering) under controlled conditions in a vacuum chamber. Changes in microstructure, crystal phase, and surface roughness were analyzed using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), along with corrosion resistance testing in a 3.5% NaCl solution.
The results showed a transformation of the microstructure to the martensite phase as a result of rapid cooling after laser treatment. They also demonstrated an increase in crystallinity and a change in corrosion resistance, which was lower in the laser-treated samples compared to those simply coated.
This achievement confirms the distinguished scientific role of the College of Engineering staff at Al-Ayen University and contributes to strengthening the university's position on the international research map.
