The Women Empowerment Unit (WEU) at Al-Ayen Iraqi University is an administrative and organizational department dedicated to enhancing the status of women within the university and the community, be they students, staff, or faculty members, to enable them to play an effective role in development and decision-making processes.
The Unit's Primary Goals:
• To empower women to be key players in achieving sustainable development.
• To equip women with the skills to address challenges effectively.
• To strengthen women's roles in all fields and provide them with full protection.
• To ensure economic, social, and political opportunities for women without any discrimination.
- The unit's functions are centered around several key axes to ensure the capacity building of women and the expansion of their developmental participation:
1. Capacity Building and Development:
• Building upon and sustaining the achievements of women within the university.
• Preparing and developing a plan to organize skills development courses (such as sewing, computing, and cooking) to increase their resources and capabilities.
• Organizing training and development programs to empower women professionally.
2. Support and Guidance:
• Providing psychological and social support to female students, staff, and faculty.
• Offering professional guidance and counseling to develop academic and career paths.
• Monitoring and resolving any issues or challenges that women may face on campus.
• Collecting and distributing aid to women with limited income.
3. Leadership and Political Participation:
• Working to increase the percentage of female leaders by highlighting women's competencies.
• Stimulating and discussing ways for women's participation in elections and political life in general.
• Changing concepts among both men and women regarding the capability of women to hold public office.
4. Awareness and Community:
• Raising awareness about the importance of gender equality and anti-discrimination within the university campus.
• Collaborating with local and international organizations concerned with women's rights (such as UN Security Council Resolution 1325).
• Linking the Unit with various official departments interested in women's affairs and cooperating effectively with them.
