3.3.7 Mental health support for staff

Al-Ayen Iraqi University is actively committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of its staff through various initiatives aimed at raising awareness and providing necessary resources. The university recognizes the importance of fostering a healthy work environment that prioritizes mental wellness, offering workshops and training sessions focused on mental health awareness and coping strategies.

 

1. The College of Dentistry, in collaboration with the Center for Continuing Education, held an educational seminar on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, to raise awareness about the issue of drug abuse. Led by Professor Jalal Shinta Jabbar, the seminar focused on the causes and dangers of drug addiction, its impact on individuals and families, and preventive measures. The event emphasized the role of family in prevention, the importance of sports in reducing drug spread, and the value of seminars and workshops for awareness. This seminar aligns with SDG 3.3.7 by emphasizing the importance of mental health support for staff, recognizing the connection between drug abuse and mental well-being. 2. Al-Ayen University’s Continuing Education Center, in collaboration with the Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Unit and the Women's Empowerment Unit, held an awareness seminar titled "Drugs: Awareness and Treatment" to address the dangers of drug addiction on individuals and society. Speakers from Dhi Qar's Police Command, Health Directorate, anti-drug initiatives, and university faculty highlighted the need for preventive awareness, treatment, and support for addiction sufferers. Emphasis was placed on educating the community about drug types, risks, and preventive methods, with a call for institutions to actively support those struggling with addiction. This seminar aligns with SDG 3.3.7 by promoting mental health awareness and support for staff, demonstrating the university's commitment to creating a responsible and informed community. 3. The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, in collaboration with the University’s Continuing Education Center, organized a workshop on sports psychology and its relation to athletes' aggressive behavior. The session explored understanding and managing sports-related behavior, identifying factors influencing it, and using this insight to predict, control, and positively shape athlete conduct. the workshop highlights Al-Ayen University's dedication to fostering a supportive atmosphere for athletes, ensuring their mental well-being while enhancing their performance. By providing essential education on sports psychology, the university not only promotes healthier conduct among athletes but also contributes to the development of more informed coaches and sports professionals.
