Al-Ayen Iraqi University - SDG 3 Progress Report
3.3.1 Current collaborations with health institutions
In 2024, Al-Ayen Iraqi University actively collaborates with various health institutions to improve health and well-being outcomes, demonstrating a strong commitment to SDG 3. Through partnerships with local, national, and international health organizations, the university enhances educational and healthcare services for the community. Locally, it collaborates with the Nasiriyah Heart Center and Health Directorate, Center for Drug Addicts and Substance Abusers.
1. The Psychological and Educational Counseling Division at Al-Ayen Iraqi University represented by Professor Dr. Jalal Shinta Jabr, met with Mr. Alaa Mashi Al-Akeeli, Director of the Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addicts and Substance Abusers in Dhi Qar, to discuss prospects for cooperation. Through this visit, we aim to learn about the number of addicts, the nature of their substance use, the types of drugs consumed, the entities cooperating with them, and the legal provisions concerning drug users. The university strives to open new avenues of cooperation with other institutions to enhance its role and achieve its objectives by conducting studies and forming research teams to address social issues. This effort contributes to SDG3 Good Health and Wellbeing, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering a sustainable research environment and supporting innovation within the academic community.

2. The College of Engineering Technology, represented by the Department of Biomedical Engineering Technology (first-year morning program), organized a scientific trip to the Specialized Heart Center in Dhi Qar. The delegation included several faculty members and a group of students. During the visit, a meeting was held with the head of the Maintenance Department at the Heart Center, who warmly welcomed and thanked the delegation. Several points were discussed, most importantly the possibility of holding joint workshops between the college and the Heart Center and preparing for student training during the summer break. An invitation was also extended to specialized engineers to conduct seminars and scientific conferences at the college. During the visit, students received training and a detailed explanation of the advanced medical equipment used at the center and how it operates. This effort contributes to SDG3 Good Health and Wellbeing, SDG 4, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering a sustainable research environment and supporting innovation within the academic community.
