Under the patronage of the Chancellor of Al-Ayen University Prof. Dr. Haider A. Marhoon, the College of Medical Technology, inaugurated the first day of Breast Cancer Early Detection Week this morning, Monday, October 20, 2025. The event is organized by the Department of Radiology Technology at the college in cooperation with the Department of Continuing Education as part of the university's awareness activities for the month of Pink October.
The activities began with a speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Marhoon, in which he welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of organizing such events, which contribute to enhancing health awareness and spreading the culture of early breast cancer detection among segments of society. This contributes to reducing infection rates and improving the chances of recovery.
The first day's program included two scientific awareness lectures. The first, by Dr. Hussein Riyadh Al-Akeili, a specialist in diagnostic and interventional radiology at Yarmouk Hospital, was titled "Early Diagnosis and Its Role in Breast Cancer Prevention." He discussed the latest diagnostic techniques and procedures for early detection and the role of radiological examinations in saving lives.
The second lecture, titled "Primary Preventive Measures for Breast Cancer," was presented by Dr. Amna Abdul Amir, a specialist in general surgery. She reviewed the causes of the disease, prevention methods, and the importance of regular self-examination for women.
The event also featured the distribution of educational leaflets and a practical demonstration of self-examination methods. A discussion was also held to answer questions and inquiries from students and attendees in the university halls.
This event is part of a series of awareness-raising activities organized by Al-Ayen University as part of its social responsibility program, under the slogan "You Are The Safety." The event aims to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and support national efforts to reduce the spread of breast cancer.
