Al-Ayen Iraqi University, represented by its Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haider A. Marhoon and the University of Karbala, represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali signed a twinning and joint cooperation agreement on Monday, September 15, 2025. The agreement was attended by members of the two universities' councils and a number of professors and researchers.
The agreement aims to strengthen academic and research partnerships between the two universities and open new horizons for cooperation in scientific and educational fields, contributing to the development of academic programs, the exchange of expertise, and keeping pace with the requirements of reputable international universities.
The terms of the agreement include cooperation in organizing joint scientific conferences and seminars, activating e-learning programs, conducting joint specialized research, and publishing it in accredited scientific journals within international databases. The agreement also includes holding training and qualification workshops to develop the skills of faculty and technicians, enhancing the academic and research capabilities of both parties.
During the signing of the agreement, the Cybersecurity Department laboratories at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Karbala were inaugurated in the presence of the presidents of both universities and members of their councils. This step aims to support the educational infrastructure and provide an advanced technological environment for students.
In this context, the Chancellor of Al-Ayen University, Prof. Haider A. Marhoon emphasized that the signing of the agreement represents an important milestone in the university's journey towards opening up to national academic institutions. He emphasized that "cooperation with the University of Karbala will provide qualitative opportunities for developing scientific research, enriching the student experience, and strengthening the position of both universities within their academic and societal environments."
