On Sunday, May 18, 2025, the Women's Affairs Department at the College of Education at Al-Ayen Iraqi University AUIQ organized an awareness workshop entitled "Justice and Human Rights, Promoting Peace Values, and Resisting Extremism." The workshop was presented by Asst. Lecturer Durgham H. Al-Rikabi, and attended by a number of professors, staff, and students from the College of Education.
The workshop highlighted the concept of justice as a fundamental principle based on fairness, equal opportunity, and equitable treatment. It addressed various types of justice, including social, legal, and economic justice. The workshop also discussed the concept of human rights as fundamental rights that guarantee human dignity, such as the right to life, education, freedom of expression, and equality, based on texts from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international conventions.
The workshop also focused on the importance of the values of tolerance and peace, explaining that tolerance means respecting diversity and accepting others and that societies that embrace these values are more cohesive and stable. In contrast, the workshop addressed the manifestations of extremism, whether religious, political, or social, and highlighted its causes, such as ignorance, marginalization, and false propaganda. It also highlighted its negative effects on individuals, society, and the state, such as isolation, violence, social fragmentation, and threats to stability.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer emphasized that justice and tolerance are the foundations for building a safe and cohesive society, emphasizing the responsibility of every individual to spread a culture of peace and reject violence and extremism. The floor was then opened for discussion and exchange of views with the attendees.
