Dr. Raed Hamid Allawi, a faculty member in the College of Engineering, Petroleum Department, at Al-Ayen Iraqi University, published a scientific paper in the field of Artificial Intelligence in Geosciences, in a journal which is indexed in Scopus Q1. This prestigious international journal specializes in the applications of artificial intelligence in geosciences.
The research was titled: Leveraging boosting machine learning for drilling rate of penetration (ROP) prediction based on drilling and petrophysical parameters.
It addressed the development of predictive models using artificial intelligence algorithms such as Random Forest, XGBoost, and AdaBoost to predict the drilling rate of penetration (ROP) based on real field data from one of the largest oil fields in southern Iraq.
The study used 14 operational and petrophysical variables, including drilling depth, torque, drill pipe rotation speed, density, and specific resistivity. The results yielded highly accurate models that contribute to reducing costs and improving drilling efficiency. This scientific achievement is an important addition to the College of Engineering / Petroleum Engineering Department at Al-Ayen University and confirms the excellence of its research staff in linking modern technologies to industrial reality.
