As part of its awareness-raising activities, the Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering held a workshop entitled "UN Resolution 1325 and How to Achieve Its Objectives." The workshop was presented by Captain Afiaa Haider Youssef, representing the Family and Child Protection Directorate at the Dhi Qar Police Command, in the college's conference hall.
The workshop addressed several topics, most notably an introduction to UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the first official document to recognize the impact of wars and conflicts on women and calls for the inclusion of women in decision-making in areas of peace and security.
Captain Afiaa also addressed the reality of women in Iraqi society and the importance of strengthening their role in security and community institutions, reviewing real-life examples and local plans aimed at achieving the goals set forth in the resolution.
The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members, students, and those interested in women's issues. It witnessed fruitful interaction and discussion about the importance of community awareness and promoting a culture of equality and justice.
