As part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being),
As part of its academic activities aimed at enhancing students' practical and cognitive skills, the College of Engineering Technology organized a workshop on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, titled "The Role of the Medical Devices Engineer in Supporting the Surgical Environment." The workshop was presented by Muntadhar Jabbar Rashid, a student from the Department of Medical Devices Engineering Technology, and attended by Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Raed Nasr Al-Obaidi, and a number of faculty and students from the department.
The workshop addressed the vital role of the medical devices engineer in operating rooms, starting with monitoring the operation of vital equipment such as anesthesia machines, artificial respiration, and vital signs monitoring devices, through inspection and calibration processes, and ending with ensuring the equipment's readiness in accordance with international safety standards. It also highlighted the importance of communication between the medical team and the specialized engineer to ensure a safe and effective operating environment.
In conclusion, I commend the student's scholarly effort in presenting the topic and his role in shedding light on one of the fundamental themes in the field of medical device engineering technology.
