As part of the joint cooperation between Al-Ayen University and Dhi Qar University, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Engineering organized an advisory seminar on cyber extortion and ways to prevent it on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Prof. Dr. Siham Abdul Hadi, from the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for the Humanities at Dhi Qar University, who is responsible for the advisory unit at the same college, presented the seminar. The seminar addressed the forms of cyber extortion, its dangers, the methods used, and how to avoid it through legal and technical awareness.
This seminar aims to raise community awareness among students and faculty about the dangers of cybercrime and ways to protect themselves from it. They emphasized the importance of reporting cases of extortion and taking the necessary precautions to maintain the security of personal information.
This initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), which emphasizes the need to reduce all forms of violence and crime, strengthen the rule of law, and ensure access to justice for all. This symposium contributes to empowering individuals to protect themselves from cybercrime, fostering a safe and stable environment within the academic community.
Asst. Prof. Bassem A. Kreidi, Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, emphasized that this event is part of the college's efforts to provide psychological and awareness support to students and promote a safe university environment free from cyber threats. He thanked the lecturer and Dhi Qar University for their fruitful cooperation in making the symposium a success.
