In its endeavor to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG No. 4: Quality Education)
Within the framework of academic cooperation between the College of Engineering Technology and the College of Pharmacy, the Continuing Education Center in the two colleges organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Impact of Cheating on Society”, under the supervision of Dr. Shaker Hula Sabit, with the participation of a number of faculty members and students.
The session was inaugurated with a welcoming speech in which Dr. Shaker stressed that cheating is not just a wrong individual behavior but a phenomenon that has serious repercussions on the quality of education and the future of society as a whole. He also pointed out the seriousness of the spread of the phenomenon of cheating in exams and its profound impact on the quality of education and the future of the coming generations.
The underlying causes of the spread of cheating were also discussed, with some pointing to the increasing academic pressures, while others believed that the educational environment and traditional assessment methods may sometimes contribute to the spread of this phenomenon. The discussion also included a review of the negative consequences of cheating, which are not limited to the individual only, but extend to the entire society, as it leads to the graduation of unqualified staff, and weakens the confidence of institutions in the local labor market.
The discussion was not only theoretical, but practical solutions and initiatives were presented, starting from enhancing student awareness of the importance of academic integrity, to developing more innovative assessment methods that give students space for creativity instead of relying on memorization and retrieval.
Finally, the organizers stressed the importance of establishing a culture of integrity and transparency within educational institutions, emphasizing that education based on honesty and credibility is the basic pillar for building a cohesive and advanced society.
