The Continuing Education Center at Al-Ayen Iraqi University, under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Dr. Shafik S. Shafik, organized the Environment and Sustainable Development Forum under the slogan "Together towards a cleaner environment and a sustainable future", in cooperation with Al-Karkh University of Science and the Dhi Qar Environment Directorate, in the presence of a number of deans of colleges, their deputies, and a member of the Dhi Qar Provincial Council Asst. Lecturer Zainab Al-Asadi, heads of departments, lecturers, and university students.
The forum began with a welcoming speech delivered by the Director of the Continuing Education Center Asst. Lecturer Abdulrahman Al-Batat, followed by playing the Iraqi national anthem and reciting Surat Al-Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. The scientific program of the forum then began, which included three valuable scientific lectures, the first of which was the Iraqi Green Building Code presented by Prof. Dr. Amani I. Al-Tamimi, where she discussed the importance of applying green building standards in achieving environmental sustainability.
The second lecture was on the efforts of the Dhi Qar Environment Directorate in protecting the environment, presented by Dr. Muwaffaq H. Al-Taie, reviewing the most prominent environmental projects and initiatives in the governorate.
The third lecture was on environmental inevitability and sustainable development, delivered by Professor Dr. Shafik S. Shafik stresses the close relationship between environmental protection and the sustainability of natural resources.
The closing session witnessed fruitful discussions and interventions from the attendees, which enriched the forum's themes and emphasized the importance of the academic and societal role in protecting the environment. The forum's recommendations were also announced, focusing on the need to include a study material on the environment in college curricula, updating environmental legislation, and enhancing cooperation between academic and environmental institutions.
This forum comes as an affirmation of the commitment of Al-Ayen Iraqi University to its role in promoting environmental awareness and contributing to achieving sustainable development goals at the national level.
