On February 1, 2025, the Women's Affairs Division at the College of Law / Al-Ayen Iraqi University organized a workshop entitled "Women's Political Empowerment and Participation in Legislative and Local Elections", in the presence of Eng. Zainab S. Al-Asadi, a member of the Dhi Qar Provincial Council, who gave a lecture on the importance of women's participation in electoral processes and enhancing their role in decision-making.
Workshop axes:
Definition of women's political empowerment: The workshop reviewed the concept of political empowerment and the importance of women's role in decision-making, in addition to their rights to run for office and vote.
Challenges facing women in the political field: The obstacles that hinder women's participation were highlighted, such as cultural and social factors, economic challenges, and lack of political awareness.
Strategies to enhance women's participation: The workshop discussed mechanisms to motivate women to engage in political life through training in leadership and formulating public policies, in addition to developing public speaking and communication skills.
Successful experiences in political participation: Prominent models of women who succeeded in reaching decision-making positions were reviewed, with a discussion of the lessons learned from these experiences and the possibility of applying them in different societies.
Recommendations and outcomes:
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably enhancing awareness programs on women's political rights, supporting women's candidacy in elections, and launching training initiatives to enable them to play a more effective role in public life.
This workshop comes within the efforts of the College of Law / Al-Ayen Iraqi University to support women's rights and enhance their role in sustainable development, based on the belief in the necessity of their representation in decision-making positions to ensure the building of a more just and inclusive society.
