The Chancellor of Al-Ayen Iraqi University AUIQ, Prof. Dr. Shafik S. Shafik participated in a specialized workshop on the Shanghai Ranking of Universities and Academic Specializations, in cooperation with the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the patronage and attendance of the President of the University of Baghdad Prof. Dr. Bahaa I. Insaf, and with wide participation from representatives of quality assurance departments in Iraqi universities.
Dr. Insaf delivered an introductory speech in which he stressed the university's commitment to improving the quality of education and scientific research, stressing that the Shanghai Ranking is an international standard that highlights universities with outstanding performance, which requires continuous efforts to achieve standards of excellence.
At the end of the workshop, the attendees discussed exchanging ideas and came up with practical recommendations that would contribute to improving the university's ranking in global rankings and enhancing its competitiveness in the international academic arena.
The Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Omar Faleh Hassan pointed out the strategies that the university can follow to enhance its position in the classification, with a focus on the importance of academic specializations and their role in achieving the classification standards. During the workshop, practical examples and successful experiences were presented from international universities that were able to improve their ranking by developing effective academic and research strategies. The workshop, which was held within the framework of its efforts to enhance the position of Iraqi universities in international classifications, included main axes, most notably the criteria adopted by the Shanghai Classification in evaluating universities, which include scientific research, publication in reputable journals, the number of citations to research, and the number of international awards received by faculty members and graduates.
