17.2.1. In 2024, Al-Ayen University’s achievements in sustainable development reflect its dedication to national SDG goals and youth empowerment, strengthening community leadership, fostering collaboration, and advancing educational standards through impactful initiatives.

1. In coordination with the Dhi Qar Police Command and the Ministry of Water Resources, the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Al-Ayen Iraqi University organized a field visit to the Al-Chibayish Marshes in Dhi Qar Governorate on Sunday, March 3, 2024. The visit included several key activities, the first of which was a scientific seminar led by Dr. Ammar Zuhair Sabri, Head of the Theoretical Sciences Department at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. The seminar addressed the Ministry of Higher Education’s curricula and the university presidency’s directives on preserving the cultural heritage of the marshes and promoting it as part of the world heritage. This effort contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life Below Water (SDG 14) , and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering a sustainable research environment and supporting innovation within the academic community.

3. The Psychological and Educational Counseling Division at Al-Ayen Iraqi University, represented by Professor Dr. Jalal Shinta Jabr, met with Mr. Alaa Mashi Al-Akeeli, Director of the Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addicts and Substance Abusers in Dhi Qar, to discuss prospects for cooperation. Through this visit, we aim to learn about the number of addicts, the nature of their substance use, the types of drugs consumed, the entities cooperating with them, and the legal provisions concerning drug users. The university strives to open new avenues of cooperation with other institutions to enhance its role and achieve its objectives by conducting studies and forming research teams to address social issues.  This effort contributes to SDG Good Health and Wellbeing, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering a sustainable research environment and supporting innovation within the academic community.

4. The Dean of the College of Law, Assistant Professor Dr. Khalid Kadhim Awda Al-Ibrahimi, participated in the fifth Al-Rafidain Forum (RCD Forum) in Baghdad, in the presence of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and more than 1,000 political and academic figures from 35 Arab and foreign countries.The fifth forum, entitled "The Future of Humanity: Crises and Solutions," aims to showcase a positive image of Baghdad. Participants will discuss international, regional, and local issues related to the future of humanity, the transformations in the general situation both domestically and internationally, and ways to overcome these crises. This initiative advances SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities)  and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

5. A delegation from the College of Law, headed by the Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Khalid Kadhim Awda Al-Ibrahimi, and including the Assistant Dean, Dr. Ghassan, and Assistant Lecturer Hussam Ali Aziz, visited the Dhi Qar Court of Appeals. This visit was part of the College's initiative to explore avenues for cooperation between the two institutions and to establish a virtual court at the university. 6. Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Muhibis, Head of the Student Activities Department, received a delegation from the Iraqi Athletes Syndicate – Dhi Qar Branch, headed by the Syndicate President, Captain Sarmad Mohammed Redha, to explore prospects for joint cooperation between the two institutions. The two parties discussed avenues of collaboration, including organizing several developmental training courses, as well as various events and festivals aimed at supporting all sports champions in the province across different athletic disciplines. 7. The Continuing Education Center at Al-Ayen Iraqi University in cooperation with the Martyrs Foundation in Dhi Qar Governorate, organized a scientific symposium entitled “The Speicher Massacre: Mass Killing and Intent to Commit Genocide. The symposium was delivered by Mr. Muhannad Hadi Al-Shahtur, Director of the Martyrs Foundation in Dhi Qar, and was attended by a number of academics, security personnel, and students. 8. A delegation from Al-Ayen Iraqi University visited Mansoura University in the Arab Republic of Egypt to explore opportunities for academic and scientific collaboration. The discussions focused on establishing partnerships in medicine, artificial intelligence engineering, and other academic fields, as well as exchanging expertise and strengthening international cooperation. The Engineering Technical College at Al-Ayen Iraqi University signed a scientific cooperation memorandum with the Electrical Engineering Technical College to strengthen academic partnership and exchange expertise between institutions. The College of Health and Medical Technologies at Al-Ayen Iraqi University signed a twinning and cooperation agreement with Al-Furat Al-Awsat University to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration. 11. Al-Ayen Iraqi University signed a pioneering twinning agreement with Al-Muthanna University to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two institutions. Al-Ayen University President Dr. Shafiq Shakir Shafiq Al-Mawla and Assistant for Scientific Affairs honored Khaldoun Faleh Talib, the Sustainable Development Unit Officer, for achieving third place in the national report launch event on universities' responses to SDGs. This recognition was granted due to the unit's well-prepared report, which secured this prestigious ranking. The achievement reflects Al-Ayen University's commitment to SDG 4 by advancing institutional accountability and SDG 17 through national collaboration to foster sustainable development in higher education.

2. Al-Ayen University's Scouting Activities Division participated in the Developmental Course for Scouting Activity Officials, held at Al-Mustaqbal University College in Babil. Over four days, the course featured workshops, discussions, and both practical and theoretical sessions on scouting principles, emphasizing global youth engagement policies and Arab scouting curricula. Led by Prof. Dr. Thaer Rashid Hassan, Chair of the University Scouting Committee, the course also highlighted leadership and planning in scouting, fostering skills crucial for youth empowerment. This initiative aligns with SDG 4 by enhancing leadership skills, SDG 17 through university collaboration, and SDG 16 by promoting organized, constructive youth engagement.
