Initiatives such as the College of Engineering’s visit to the Nasiriyah orphanage provide essential resources and support to vulnerable populations, while community iftar events ensure food security for underprivileged students. Additionally, the university fosters student involvement in advocacy efforts, empowering them to participate in discussions on poverty-related issues and contribute to meaningful policy recommendations. Through these multifaceted efforts—including the provision of stationery and classroom improvements for low-income students and fundraising initiatives like the charity bazaar—the university effectively addresses poverty in all its dimensions, reinforcing its commitment to achieving SDG 1: No Poverty and promoting social justice.
1- University of Al-Ayen Hosts Community Iftar for Staff, Dormitory Students, and Orphans
In a heartfelt gesture of community service, the University of Al-Ayen organized a communal iftar for all dormitory students, staff members, and a group of orphans. This initiative is part of the university's annual program aimed at supporting orphans specifically and providing assistance to students from remote areas during the holy month of Ramadan.
This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1: No Poverty, as it provides support to orphans and students from diverse backgrounds, contributing to poverty alleviation and social equity.

2- The College of Engineering Technology Visits the Orphanage in Nasiriyah
As part of its ongoing scientific, humanitarian, and community service activities, and in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), the College of Engineering Technology visited the orphanage in Nasiriyah. A delegation of students from the Department of Computer Engineering (both morning and evening studies) was led by Dr. Modhi Lefteh, the head of the department, along with other teaching staff members, on Monday, April 17, 2023. The visit included a shared Iftar meal with the children at the orphanage, which also functions as a school for the children. The students engaged in various activities and games with the orphans. The delegation also observed the conditions at the institution, discussing the vital role played by the orphanage and the community of Nasiriyah in providing care and ensuring a stable life for the orphans. The institution expressed its gratitude and readiness to welcome further visits and initiatives from universities and other institutions.
This activity addresses SDG 1 (No Poverty) by supporting vulnerable orphans.

3- College of Engineering Supports Over 600 Students at Shakir Al-Gharabi School
Under the slogan "Together We Build Knowledge and Shape Dreams," the Student Activities Department at the College of Engineering provided support to schools by visiting Shakir Al-Gharabi School on Monday, December 25, 2023, and supplying stationery for 620 students. This humanitarian initiative extended beyond just providing supplies; it also involved renovating and equipping classrooms and beautifying the surroundings by planting trees. These efforts aim to create a learning environment that harmonizes with nature and fosters creativity.
In conclusion, the Student Activities Department at the College of Engineering received moral and material support from the administration of Al-Ayen University, Dean of the College of Engineering Professor Firas Faiq Kazem, and the administrative and teaching staff. They expressed their gratitude and encouragement for such activities that aim to assist our students. This initiative is connected to SDG 1: No Poverty by providing stationery and support for students, the initiative helps alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by families, particularly in low-income areas. Access to educational resources is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty. Moreover, this initiative aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, as it directly supports educational access and improvement for students, fostering an enriching learning environment that encourages academic success and personal growth. Additionally, it contributes to SDG 15: Life on Land by promoting environmental sustainability through tree planting and enhancing the school’s surroundings.
